CAMPUS SAFETY

Another CERT class completes training

By Valarie Smith

The first Community Emergency Response Team class of 2017 at the University of Houston has graduated.

The final drill for the CERT class took place Friday, March 31, and involved a mock scenario in which a tornado strikes campus. The eight-week class included students, faculty and staff from all areas of campus, with past CERT graduates participating as “victims” of the tornado during the drill.

CERT is a training program that prepares participants to help themselves, their family and their neighbors in the event of a disaster. A new class will be begin during the fall semester. To participate, please contact Valarie Smith at vmsmith2@uh.edu.
