Baylor trip provides useful insight for UH Dining team

As a department that plays an important role by serving meals to thousands of hungry students daily, the University of Houston’s dining team is always seeking ways to refine and improve its operations.

On April 1, a team of UH Dining representatives, including members of the Food Service Advisory Committee, traveled to Baylor University in Waco. They received a glimpse of the campus dining halls, learned about the various programs offered to students and heard an overview of how the campus dining operation works.

The trip allowed the group to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the two dining operations, and to see what ideas and programs work well in a different university setting.

“No matter how big or small a school, its demographics or what services it offers, every university’s dining program can offer a different perspective on how to approach things,” said Geoff Herbert, resident district manager for UH Dining. “We are grateful to Baylor for allowing us to come and learn about their dining program.”

In addition, representatives from UH’s postal and housing departments accompanied the dining team to Waco, touring the facilities of their Baylor counterparts and gathering valuable insight into how those operations work.
