Parking and Transportation Services has implemented an innovative new feature at our parking meters across campus that eliminates the stress of worrying if your time will expire before you get back to your car.
The extend-by-phone feature was added to all UH parking meters in August.
How it works is simple:
- When paying at the meter with your credit card, enter your phone number when prompted (You do not have to enter a phone number if you do not want to get a text before your time expires).
- Ten minutes before your time expires, you will receive a text message asking if you want to buy more time.
- Respond back with the number of minutes you want your time extended. Keep in mind that if you want to add time, you must do so before the expiration time shown in the text message.
- You will then receive a confirmation text.
If you decide to purchase more time, you can do so in increments of 15 minutes. In addition to paying for the extra time, there is a minimal fee -- 25 cents per transaction -- to use the service.
This is a great option that allows our parking customers to add the the time without the stress of walking all the way back to the meter to do so. Nearly 300 customers have used the service at our meters in the past two months. We expect that number to grow as more and more people get familiar and comfortable with it.

(Please note: The meters that are located along Holman Street are operated by the city of Houston and not UH Parking and Transportation Services).
