Every spring semester, UH student leaders band together to transform part of campus into a fully functional town called "Fiesta City." A part of Frontier Fiesta, the hard work is for a good cause, as the annual student-led festival promotes education, community and scholarships, while also showcasing the many talents of the UH student body.
Scheduled to take place March 24-26, the event will include live concerts, variety shows by student organizations, carnival booths, a barbecue cookoff and more.
To help prepare for Frontier Fiesta, which will be set in and around TDECU Stadium, parking lots in the area will be blocked off as early as two weeks before the event to allow for construction of the festival space to begin.
Any vehicles remaining in these surface lots after they have closed will be relocated to another parking lot on campus.
“This year’s planning committee decided on a plan that is very similar to what we did for last year’s event,” said UH Parking and Transportation Services Director Bob Browand. “The only real difference people may notice is that parking lots will be going offline in two phases, rather than three.”
In addition to using the surface lots, the committee also plans to utilize the nearby Stadium Parking Garage for event visitors starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. Students, faculty and staff who have a permit for the garage will still be able to access it as usual, but should expect heavier than normal traffic in the area through Sunday, March 27.
