Deadline Nears for Students to Apply for Meal Plan and Textbook Scholarships

The deadline to apply for either a meal plan or textbook scholarship is fast-approaching, so interested students at the University of Houston should act now.

Each academic year, UH Auxiliary Services teams up with UH Dining Services and the Barnes and Noble bookstore to offer qualified students the opportunity to apply for these scholarships, which help students cover the costs of textbooks and meals.

Recipients of the meal plan scholarship will receive $100 of Cougar Cash and unlimited meal swipes, with 30-minute intervals, in the dining halls for the upcoming fall and spring semesters, while winners of the textbook scholarship will earn $800 – $400 in both the fall and spring semesters – to use toward the purchase of their textbooks. Textbook scholarship winners can even apply for a scholarship renewal if they maintain the same academic standing the following year.

“We are proud and happy to work with our partners to offer these scholarships to our students,” said Deborah Davis, assistant director of Auxiliary Services. “The funds help students weather the costs of textbooks and food, two necessities they need to succeed.”

The deadline to apply for both scholarships is Sunday, Feb. 15.
