Don’t look now, but the fall semester will be coming to an end in four weeks. Before you know it, the winter break will be here.

Most students who live on campus will be headed elsewhere to spend the break staying with family, visiting friends or traveling. But there are some who do not plan on returning home for various reasons, including international students and those who need to continue their regular work routines.

These students will spend the break living in one of the on-campus residential communities. You could be one of them!

Moody Dining Commons open every day

If you will be staying at UH during that time, Moody Dining Commons will be open every day – including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the door price to enter is $7.95 plus tax if you do not buy a winter meal plan and will be paying by cash, credit or debit. During dinner hours (5 to 7 p.m.) the door rate is $10.95 plus tax. (If you pay with Cougar Cash, however, you receive 10 percent off the door rate).

If you plan on eating there a lot during the break, it only makes financial sense for you to get one of two winter meal plans we offer. That’s because the cost of a meal with a winter plan is cheaper than paying the door rate.

Which plan best suits your needs?

You can choose one of two winter plans, which will be valid from Dec. 14 through Jan. 12:

  • Block 20
    Number of meal swipes: 20
    Cost: $167.25 (tax included)
    Cost per meal swipe: $8.36
  • Block 50
    Number of meal swipes: 50
    Cost: $334.49 (tax included)
    Cost per meal swipe: $6.69

Your winter meal plan will be charged to your spring fee bill. Selecting one is easy:

  1. Use your myUH ID and password to log in to AccessUH
  2. Select the Meal Plan icon
  3. Click on the "Meal Plan" drop down tab
  4. Select the "Buy Meal Plan" option from the menu
  5. Select the appropriate term (Winter 2018)
  6. Choose a meal plan
  7. View the meal plan terms and conditions
  8. Check box to accept the meal plan terms and conditions
  9. Click "Buy"

If you currently have a fall meal plan, it will expire at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at which time meal exchanges will stop being accepted and any remaining guest passes will be forfeited. Unused Cougar Cash, however, will carry over and can still be used after that date.

Several stations will be open

The Savor station will offer homestyle menu items and serve both vegan and halal menu items. DR34M station will offer made-to-order grill options. A salad bar and dessert station will also be open. All other stations will be closed.
