On Friday, Dec. 7, University of Houston Dining Services hosted a gingerbread house decorating competition as a fun and festive way for students to kick off the holiday season at Cougar Woods Dining Commons. With 20 students participating, the event was a huge success!
Participants competed for one of three prizes, and the winners were selected by their peers. Students voted via text message with their phones for their favorite gingerbread house, garnering 63 total votes. The grand prize was a $50 Visa gift card, while the second-place winner took home a $25 Visa gift card. The prize for third place was also a $25 Visa gift card.
The event brought a sense of nostalgia for students, with one stating, “I haven’t made a gingerbread house since I was a kid, so it really brought me back to my childhood.” These students were able to experience a little taste of home before the holidays.
Cougar Woods’ first ever holiday gingerbread house competition allowed the students to take a break from studying and have some stress-free fun. The students were able to RSVP prior to the event to reserve their space in the competition.
And the winners are:
Grand Prize: Jonathan Woods, "J’s House"
Runner-up: Vivianne Nguyen, "Fourier Wonderland"
Third Place: Dominique Meyer, "HGTV Dream House"
