Prerequisites: MUSI 1311 and passing grade on Theory Proficiency Exam II.
Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes include fluency in chromatic tonal harmony and voice-leading involving linear chords, the Neapolitan and augmented sixths, advanced modulation, ninth chords, and smaller musical forms. Coursework includes part-writing exercises, analysis of music literature, and composition.

Midterm Exam: Wednesday, October 18
Semester Project due: Monday, November 13
Final Exam: Monday, December 11, 8:00-11:00 a.m. (If you have any conflict with this exam time, please contact your instructor.)

Exams (2 x 25%) 50%

Four absences are allowed for any reason. There will be no ÒexcusedÓ absences beyond that number.
Fifth absence lowers final grade by a minus.
Sixth absence lowers final grade by an additional minus.
Seventh absence results in being dropped from the course (resulting in a W or F as appropriate).
Tardies: Three count as one absence.
Last day to drop without a grade: September 6 Last day to drop or withdraw: October 31
Assignments are due on the appropriate day at the start of class.
Please obtain the phone number of a classmate to get information in case of absence.
Students are expected to be in class and on time. No late assignments will be accepted.

Description and Learning Outcomes: Aural studies through singing and dictation. Course objectives and learning outcomes include fluency in musical tasks involving tenor clef, secondary dominants, elementary modulation, and more advanced rhythms with borrowed divisions.

Grading guidelines for prepared singing:
A+ Correct pitches, correct rhythm, correct conducting, performed confidently and musically
A Correct pitches, correct rhythm, correct conducting
AÐ Minor errors in one or two areas
B+ Minor errors in three areas or 1-2 obvious rhythm errors; stopping and continuing
B 2-3 serious pitch errors or serious rhythmic errors; beginning over
BÐ 3-4 serious pitch errors and/or many rhythmic errors
CÕs ÊÊStarting over more than once; additional pitch and rhythm errors; failure to conduct
