Prerequisite: Passing grade on the Theory Entrance Exam.

Course Schedule (subject to change):

Exam I (Part I, Rudiments): Monday, September 22
Exam II (Part II, Units 1-8): Friday, October 24
Exam III (Part II, Units 8-13): Friday, December 12, 8:00-11:00 a.m.

Grading and Policies:

Exams (3 x 20%)   60%      
Daily work             40%

Four absences are allowed for any reason. There will be no ÒexcusedÓ absences beyond that number.
Fifth absence lowers final grade by a minus.
Sixth absence lowers final grade by an additional minus.
Seventh absence results in being dropped from the course (resulting in a W or F as appropriate).
Tardies: Three count as one absence.

Last day to drop without a grade: September 10           Last day to drop or withdraw: October 31

Assignments are due on the appropriate day at the start of class.
NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Please obtain the phone number of a classmate to get information in case of absence.

Always bring staff paper (blank staff paper PDF file).

Students are expected to be in class and on time, with homework completed.

Midterm Exam (Units 1-5): Tuesday, Oct 21 (dictation) & Oct 23 ( singing exam by appointment)
Final (Units 5-6): Thursday, Dec. 4 (dictation) and Thursday, Dec. 11, 8:00-11:00 (singing, individually by appointment)

         A+          Correct pitches, correct rhythm, correct conducting, performed confidently and musically

         AР         Minor errors in one or two areas

         B+           Minor errors in three areas or 1-2 obvious rhythm errors; stopping and continuing

         B             2-3 serious pitch errors or serious rhythmic errors; beginning over

         BР          3-4 serious pitch errors and/or many rhythmic errors

         CÕs        ÊÊStarting over more than once; additional pitch and rhythm errors; failure to conduct

         DÕs ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊNumerous errors in all areas; lack of orientation to key center; poor preparation

         F             Numerous errors in all areas; apparent lack of preparation
