Joachim Andersen:

Karl Joachim Andersen (1847- 1909)

Andersen was a prominent Danish flutist, composer, and conductor. He was a flutist in the orchestra of the Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen, a founding member and assistant conductor of Berlins Philharmonisches Orchester, and conductor of the orchestras at the Rosenborg Slot and the Tivloi Gardens in Copenhagen. His eight volumes of etudes for flute (opp. 15, 21, 30, 33, 37, 41, 60, and 63) have served as standard pedagogical tools throughout the 20th century. Andersen also composed more than 30 works for flute and piano; the scope and substance of his style is assessed in terms of their formal, melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic features.
