2304 Principles of Microeconomics

Essay Topic:

 

Prof Spearman uses economic reasoning to make many of his decisions in Deadly Indifference. Select four such examples. Discuss the economic principles and economic logic involved in each decision. Carefully explain all of the factors and circumstances that lead Prof Spearman to make his decisions. Comment on whether you think the decisions were correct, and if not, what the factors were that Prof Spearman omitted from his analysis.

 

Logistics

 

The essay must be turned in at the beginning of the first class of the week of March 30. Late papers will be penalized. Your essay must not be longer than 900 words, about 3 double spaced typed pages in the usual fashion. The essay must be typed, double spaced, one side per page. Attach a cover sheet containing the title of your essay, along with your name and your section information.

 

Spelling errors and grammatical mistakes will be penalized, so don’t even think of handing in a first draft. Your second (or subsequent) draft should be carefully proofread.

 

The University Honor Code will be strictly enforced, and all work on this assignment will be your own. Consultations with other students in this class, or those enrolled in other introductory economics courses, are prohibited. You may direct questions to your instructor and you may attend any University sponsored writing clinics. All references to other peoples’ ideas, including Marshall Jevons or your textbook authors’, must be appropriately cited. Especially include the page numbers in Deadly Indifference for each of your examples. Essays which answer a different question than that posed here will be treated as an Honor Code violation.
