Jack M. Fletcher, Ph.D, is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Houston. Dr. Fletcher received a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Florida in 1978. He is a Diplomat, American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology, American Board of Professional Psychology.

For the past 20 years, Dr. Fletcher has conducted research on the development of reading, language, and other cognitive skills in children. Dr. Fletcher collaborates on several grants on reading and attention, and leads a multi-disciplinary grant on early reading development and intervention. He is part of a four-university consortium of investigators collaborating on a grant on the development of literacy skills in Spanish-speaking and bilingual children. Dr. Fletcher has served on or chaired study sections for federal agencies. He served on the OERI commissioned Rand Reading Study Group, the National Research Council Committee on Scientific Principles in Education Research, and the President’s Commission on Excellence in Special Education. Dr. Fletcher helped the Houston Independent School District to design new models of reading instruction for children with persistent reading disabilities. He consults regularly with districts and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on assessment and special education.
