The Hellenistic & Roman Periods

323 BCE.  Death of Alexander the Great. His conquests Hellenize Persia, Phoenicia, Egypt, and other Near Eastern societies; they also signal the end of the Greek city-state... Meanwhile Rome begins to control the rest of Italy.

200 BCE.  End of the 2d Punic War. With the defeat of Hannibal and the Carthaginian (Phoenician or "Punic") empire, Rome establishes hegemony throughout the Mediterranean and soon takes over Greece (example).

circa 0.  Rome conquers Judea in 63 BCE, begins conquest of Celtic Britain in 54 BCE... The Roman Republic turns into the Roman Empire under Julius Caesar and his heir Augustus Caesar by 29 BCE... Jesus Christ born between 8 and 4 BCE. [Prof Dunkle's Day in the Life of a Roman]

325 CE.  Establishment of Christianity. The emperor confiscates pagan property for the Christian churches. The Council of Nicaea rules that Christ was not just a man, but God.
