  Who am I
John Craft is a recent PhD graduate in Biochemistry with an emphases in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Go to Sea to Shining Sea for the full story. He seeks to merge his NASA experience with NMR and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to explore protein structure and function.

John Craft is a 14 year veteran of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Johnson Space Center. His primary responsibilities included the technical chairmanship of the Guidance, Navigation, and Control panel for the Ascent phase of the Space Shuttle vehicle. His primary accomplishments included managing millions of dollars of budget and significant upgrades that include the GN&C adaptations for the Super Light Weight Tank, major changes to the onboard flight software guidance algorithms, redesigning flight control filters for the attenuation of dynamic bending modes, and most recently to development a set of innovative software algorithms for the prediction of vehicle performance for abort capability in something called Cockpit Avionics Upgrades. In addition of the technical contributions a number of contractor managerial tasks where required for both Engineering Directorate services contract personnel and Systems Integration contractor personnel.

At NASA, John was given the opportunity to pursue excellence, receiving the Flight Space Awareness award in 1998 and the Silver Snoopy in 1996 among other awards.

John Craft's vision for NASA has always been to increase automation and the utilization of technology onboard the space shuttle and use the infrastructure that we had today to expand safely the capabilities of the agency at a reasonable cost. However the beruacacary of NASA has made progress very slow, and the agency continues to transition many functions from civil servants to contractors.

John is an honor graduate of the Wichita State University in Aerospace Engineering and now is branching to the pursue of post-graduate education in the biotechnology and genetics fields. The twentieth century was the age of man over machine, big metal, technology. All characteristic of his career at NASA.

John believes that simple multi cellular organisms have locked away the secrets of the origins of life, secrets of the biochemical dance that the bodies of these organisms need to regulate different processes that ultimately lead to this great and wonderful gift of the human being. The pursuit to identify the patterns not yet seen, to look for the possibilities not yet found, to find knowledge not yet discovered motivates his move to biophysics. This age will be the age of biology, but it will not be man over biology, but rather man in partnership with the gifts of biology shared with us through the disciplined exploration of science and medicine.
