Demonstration -- Probability

You may be too young to remember the Let's Make A Deal Television Program but that's OK. There are three boxes, one of which contains a New CAR!!!. First, you pick one, but don't open it. Then there are two left unchosen. Monty Hall opens an empty unchosen one. (At least one of those remaining is empty. Since he knows which box has car, he will not accidently open that one.) Finally, you have the choice of keeping your box, or trading for the one left on the table.

Try playing. Try this at least 20 times and record the Won - Lost matrix. What is the "best" strategry? Does your strategy (keeping or switching seem to make any difference? One strategy is to try the game 20 times and use the switching strategy each time. Then repeat and play 20 times but keep your first selection. When you have thought about this send me an e-mail and tell me how you did and what strategy you advise me to use.

Then, try playing again.
