Today, Egypt provides large amounts of radio and television programming to other countries. Cairo and Alexandria are known as the cultural and artistic capitals of the Arab world. Yearly, Egypt turns out hundreds of talented singers, dancers, and actors. Various radio networks offer different materials to the different populations within Egypt. Radio Cairo offers a mixture of music, news, commentary, and other entertainment. The Second Program provides cultural and artistic programming. The People's Programming serves special target groups such as youth, women, and the military. There is some Palestinian programming and a radio service in Hebrew as well.
Wavelengths transmit 395 hours daily.
The construction of eleven provincial stations and the use of wide diffusion stations has facilitated broadcasting services. In 1994-1995, the number of relay stations reached 252 of a total 12,617 kilowatts.
