Action/Adventure films have their beginnings in silent serial films of the early teens. Though Action/ Adventure are considered an almost exclusively male genre, those original serials were dominated by women stars: Pearl White, Grace Cunard, Helen Holmes. As Action/Adventure films have changed to reflect social fantasies, the American public is continually offered a dreamscape where contemporary heros save the day.
