Ian Fleming, was born on the 28th of May 1908 in London. Ian Fleming's first biographer, John Pearson, has recognized January 15, 1952 as being the birth date of James Bond. Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, leaves a heritage as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. Fleming's donation to popular literature and post-war Western culture can’t be overdone. The legend begun in 1952 where Fleming begun composing the story Casino Royale in his Jamaican estate called Goldeneye. Fleming used to do work as a journalist as well as a naval intelligence officer before he started writing. Fleming, who was born in May 28th, 1908, transformed popular detective and spy fiction from the dark, through the eye of secret agent 007. Ian appropriated the name "James Bond" because he felt the name suitably flat and anonymous. In contrast to Fleming's desire, Bond's easy of knowledge of the best wines, champagnes, automobiles, skill at high-stakes gambling and cigarettes made James Bond an icon of classiness. Fleming's villains provide the author with great opportunity to explore larger themes. Ian Fleming died suddenly of a heart attack on August 12, 1964 at 56 years old during the shooting of Goldfinger.

There were many other espionage/spy films before James Bond was ever established, but Bond movies revolutionized the spy/espionage action/adventure films forever. James Bond films were created mostly in reaction to the film noir, World War II adventure films, Hitchcock films and psychological thrillers of the 1950's. They showed the male hero to be stressed out and having a hard time, which in some ways reflected the unease men felt on returning from the war and adjusting to peace time and felt women's increasing influence in society. From the 1970's onwards the James Bond series has taken influences from the many blockbusters of the time. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Die Hard can all be sited as direct examples. The popularity of The Matrix and it's spinning camera work can be seen to influence the latest film, Die Another Day. Many of the films have begun to imitate and influence themselves. The Spy Who Loved Me is an almost complete reworking of You Only Live Twice and elements of Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever can all be seen in the latest films, often in an effort to reassert the brand of James Bond.
