GEOL 3378: Introduction to Atmospheric Science
Course instructor: Dr. Jim Lawrence,   Dept of Geosciences,   UofH

EXERCISE #2.
Due September 13, 2002

Below you will find a surface weather map of the Southern Plains dated December 30, 2000 obtained over from the Internet. Using this map get an Atlas and find the following cities on the map and put a check mark by them: Slidell, Louisiana; Houston, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; El Paso, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Little Rock, Arkansas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Dodge City, Kansas. On the attached Table record all the weather conditions at each city from the map below. You must get the locations correct on the map and record all measurements on the Table to get full credit including Temperature, Dew Point, Wind direction ( in degrees, 0 to 360, see page 251 of your text ), Wind speed (knots), and Cloud cover ( in %, 0 to 100) plus any comments about the weather). See appendix B in the text. In some instances ( wind direction and cloud cover) convert the symbols to numerical values for the table entries.
You should also get on the Internet and go to http://weather.unisys.com and find other maps like this map. Look under "Surface Data" and then under "Regional Data Plots". Also explore this site for future use in this course.
