Baku is a capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan,
a city of 1.5 million population,
famous for its oil exploration and production.
- Palace of ShirvanShahs, the entrance, (for the history of ShirvanShahs see Caucasus);
- Icheri Sheher, ancient castle;
- Nizami (1141-1209) Monument and Literature Museum in Fountain Square, used to be Baku's most fashionable Metropol Hotel, remodeled in 1941;
- Children's Theatre;
- Mosque, used to be the Museum of Carpet Art during Soviet period, now a mosque again;
- Palm Tree, the highest one in the center of the city;
- International Bank, behind the above palm tree;
- National Bank;
- Opera House;
- Flea market of pictures and souvenirs;
- Monument of Unknown Azerbaijani, kidding (it's a certain person, I have just forgotten his name).
I have been to Baku December 1998/January 1999, and met my old friends.
On 3 March 1999 an article about me Our Man in America was published in Baku newspaper Tehsil (Education).
