We began the construction of our new home on Valentine Day, 1994, and we moved in on Thanksgiving Day, 1994. I was the general contractor for the job and I found out just how much I DIDN'T know about the building business in that hectic 10 month period. We did a lot of work on the house ourselves, including all of the painting, inside and out. That took 2 months by itself.
The house is a two story brick veneer with 5800 square feet of air-conditioned floor space. All of the rooms on the back side of the house have vaulted ceilings which make them seem enormous. We enjoy everything about the house except trying to keep it clean.
The lot is just over five acres in size and roughly three acres are dedicated to the barn and horse pasture. The outline of the area set aside for the tennis court is visible in this photo. Since this photo was taken, we have added a limestone road to the barn, built a dog fence behind the house, and built the tennis court. That may conclude the major construction projects, leaving only upkeep to provide amusement in the future.
