We currently have three horses on the place, a six-year old filly named Immy, her four-year old half-sister named Spice, and Immy's first colt, a 2 year old gelding who was born on April 13, 2000. He was named Thunder because he was born just outside the stall door during a driving rainstorm with lots of thunder and lightning. The three of them share our three acres of pasture and the bright, shiny new barn that was completed in time for the winter of 1997. The mares' mother is a registered quarter horse; Immy's sire was a registered paint and Spice's sire was a registered bay. Thunder's sire was an overo paint stallion. Both fillies and the gelding are roan in color with white blazes and Immy has two white stockings. Thunder has less "white" on him than his mother, so the paint genes didn't make much impact. He's a wonderful little guy with a great personality, so we've had a pretty easy time of it dealing with his early training. All three are underworked and overfed, of course, and they really think that they are people with full rights and priviledges. They have their little routine for feeding, etc., and woe be unto you if you try to deviate from it.
Immy was broken to saddle in the spring of 1997 and Spice suffered the same fate one year later. We would ride them more often if Linda weren't quite so timorous around them. She is slowly overcoming her fear of those huge animals and she is improving her efficiency in saddling and bridling her horse, Spice. The two of them are learning all about this horse riding business together and they are getting along just fine. It may be awhile before they are ready for barrel racing, though.
Pictures of all of the horses can be seen on Linda's Page.
