Walk-in Service

The Writing Center offers one-on-one consultations where peer tutors assist students with their writing assignments. Any student may bring their paper to the Writing Center, and receive a consultation on a first-come, first-served basis. Our trained writing consultants help students develop and structure ideas and organize their thoughts (but they will not simply proofread the paper for grammatical errors). With this, students gain additional confidence in their abilities to communicate what they want to say in writing. We essentially provide the tools to discover and articulate solutions to intellectual challenges presented by a given assignment.

We are located in Room 210 of the Writing Center. Upon entering, students will sign in at the walk-in computer and wait for the next available consultant. The duration of the writing consultation will vary depending on the traffic in the Writing Center and the nature of the paper. However, based on pedagogical theory and the typical student’s ability to retain information, we discourage consultations that last longer than 30 minutes. Papers should be brought to the Writing Center several days before it is due to ensure that the student will have ample opportunity to make the suggested changes or come back for a second consultation. Papers that are due within two hours of the consultation will not be reviewed.
