Our annual Take Back the Night program was a huge success. We had amazing speakers who shared their experiences with violence in their lives. We had great UH departments table and let students know how they could support them during difficult times. We had a electic march through campus complete with chanting and then ended with a candlelight vigil. Thanks to all of our partners for the event and our amazing and helpful volunteers. A special thanks to program coordinator Malkia Hutchinson and graduate student Amanda Williams.

Status on Women Report
The University Commission on Women, a presidentially- appointed commission, is pleased to release the second edition of the Status of Women at the University of Houston: Students, Staff, and Faculty report. Authored by three commission members, the report documents the status of female staff, faculty, and students on campus. The report reveals that women have made some progress since the issuance of the first report in 2007, but also documents some areas where women still lag behind their male counterparts. For instance, there are continued disparities in the number of full professor positions with regard to gender and there are gendered salary differences among staff, faculty and coaches. The report concludes with a series of recommendations for the campus community to consider adopting to increase equity for women on campus. Download your PDF copy here.

STUDENT
Ms. Anjuli Tuck
President, Student Program Board
What is your major and graduation year?
Major: Anthropology
Graduation: Spring 2014
Why did you choose UH as your university?
I’m actually a transfer, out-of-state student from Denver, Colorado. I transferred to the University of Houston during my sophomore year from the University of Denver due to lack of diversity and research opportunities for my biochemistry major at the time. When I arrived, several events were put on during the Weeks of Welcome which introduces UH students to all the organizations and other resources on campus. While balancing my academics on the side, SPB opened my eyes to a wide array of involvement and engagement opportunities in terms volunteering for events and joining various organizations. Since then , I can’t detach my pride for this school. I have officially become a Cougar!
What do you like about your major?
My major requires me to be very open to new cultures and customs constantly. It allows me to expand my knowledge about people and how I can apply it to real life applications.
What have you enjoyed about your university experiences?
I’m always busy doing something on campus since I was introduced to UH campus traditions and student life. I love getting involved and trying new things. Whether it’s attending a football game or programming a SPB event, I enjoy being consistently busy with UH campus activities.
What extracurricular activities have you been involved with?
Activities: President of Student Program Board, Gates Millennium Scholars, Regular Volunteer at Houston Food Bank
What advice do you have for new students?
Be open to new perspectives and things during your first year. Being open-minded allows you to grow as person and make your milestones in life.
What are you hobbies and interests?
Hobbies: Hanging out with Friends and Family, Going to the Movies, Shopping, Traveling
Interests: Family Guy (TV Show), Beyonce, Scandal (TV Show)
What are your short term and long term career goals?
In the next year, I would like the Student Program Board to be recognized by students’ enjoyment at our awesome events! When I graduate I want to revisit Europe before committing myself to graduate school. Eventually, I would like to be a forensic archaeologist and transition to a museum curator after many years of digging up artifacts.
