The Vagina Monologues were a huge hit. We had an audience of over 150 people over three performances and raised $1500 for The Women's Home, a Houston non-profit residential program that supports women by providing training, skill building, and therapy. Thanks to our wonderful TVW committee, cast and crew. Our two alumni directors, Lisa DeWaardt and April Richard were fabulous and dedicated, spending countless hours on the event. It was a wonderful success. Audience members were moved by the performances; one man even fainted!

Status on Women Report
The University Commission on Women, a presidentially- appointed commission, is pleased to release the second edition of the Status of Women at the University of Houston: Students, Staff, and Faculty report. Authored by three commission members, the report documents the status of female staff, faculty, and students on campus. The report reveals that women have made some progress since the issuance of the first report in 2007, but also documents some areas where women still lag behind their male counterparts. For instance, there are continued disparities in the number of full professor positions with regard to gender and there are gendered salary differences among staff, faculty and coaches. The report concludes with a series of recommendations for the campus community to consider adopting to increase equity for women on campus. Download your PDF copy here.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Nia Soeharto
What is your position and title at UH? Coordinator of Measurement & Evaluation Center, a unit of the Learning & Assessment Services.
How long have you worked here? I worked here at UH Main Campus for 17 years. I started as a student and hired full time as Coordinator of MEC since 2003.
What are your job responsibilities and duties? Responsible for course evaluation, faculty exam grading, data analysis, and testing.
What do you enjoy about your work? Meeting with faculty, staff, students, examinees, and the public.
What advice or encouragement would you give UH staff and students? For students coming in for course credit advising based on credit by examination and testing, I tell them to get involved with student organizations, go to football games, and never give up on anything. Be optimistic as glass is always half full.
What is something about you than many co-workers do not know about you? I am an open book, so most of my co-workers know about me. I am originally from Indonesia. But…I think they do not know that I like reading teenagers’ books as they are fun and easy reading, such as vampire books and Greek story mythology.
