Erica Tat Spotlighting a UH Woman Each Month

What is your major and year?
I am a French and Spanish major. This is my fourth year at the University of Houston, and I will be graduating in Spring 2015.

Why did you choose UH as your university?
I chose the University of Houston because it felt like home to me. Even though it is close to home, I felt like I can still learn more about this University, and I wanted to do so by becoming more involved as a student.

What have you enjoyed about your university experiences?
Being a part of the Council of Ethnic Organizations and staying involved are some of my most rewarding experiences at UH. I love being able to stay on campus to do what I enjoy besides attending classes. It adds more excitement to my university experience as well as being able to learn more about myself. Cougar Red Fridays have become one of my favorite days because I love seeing the sea of red on campus and red is now on my color palette when I shop for clothes!

What extracurricular activities have you been involved with?
I am currently the Director of the Council of Ethnic Organizations, and I serve on the New UC Project and the University Center Policy Board as well. I am also a member of the French Table, which is an organization that conducts casual conversations in French and discuss about different aspects of French culture.

What advice do you have for new students?
My advice is to not be afraid to try new things and to meet new people. College is a chapter in your life for you to fill it with new experiences and memories. One of the ways to do that is to get involved, whether it is through a student organization, fee-funded organization, or even Greek life!

What are your hobbies and interests?
In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, baking, yoga, pilates, and running. I also enjoy dinner dates with my friends and having conversations at coffee shops.
