Suicide Prevention Week is a university initiative focused on raising awareness about suicide, how to support a friend or peer, and campus resources.  The week features events, trainings, and conversations on-campus that are meant to encourage our commuinty speak up, reach out, and be informed.   This year, the week will be held from September 10th to 14th. 

By attending Suicide Prevention Week, participants will be able to: 

  • Recognize the potential risk factors and warning signs of suicide, and how to approach a friend or family member they are concerned about.
  • Understand how suicide impacts college campuses and our larger society.
  • Identify campus mental health resources and how to access them.

Schedule of Events

Monday, September 10th

  • Shoe Display: come view this community project honoring individuals lost to suicide, CRWC Rotunda 11 am – 1pm

Tuesday, September 11th

  • QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer): join CAPS to learn how to recognize and respond to signs of suicidal behavior, Student Services Center 12 pm – 1 pm; advance RSVP required to tabdulra@central.uh.edu

Wednesday, September 12

  • Gratitude Takeover with Grateful & Company, Student Center North Tables, 11 am – 1 pm. Learn more here: https://gratefulandcompany.com/
  • Beating the Blues: Food for Thought Workshop with CAPS, Student Service Center 1, Room 302G, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Thursday, September 13th

  • Fresh Check Day: an interactive mental health awareness fair with t-shirts and free giveaways!, Student Center Plaza, 11 am – 1 pm

  • Compassion Meditation, UH Wellness Classroom – CRWC 1038, 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm

Friday, September 14th

  • Mental Health First Aid: all-day training focusing on signs of several types of mental illnesses and how to respond; UH Wellness 8 am – 5 pm; advance RSVP required by visiting https://www.uh.edu/wellness/programs/mhfa/ and filling out our registration form
