Office 2007 Issues
We have found a temporary work-around for dealing with opening downloaded Office 2007 documents from WebCT. Currently what occurs is the .docx extension is changed to the .zip extension after downloading. To open the file properly, the following steps are suggested:

For PC users:

  1. If you do not already have Office 2007 installed on your machine, you will need to download the "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint 2007 file formats":

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/HA101686761033.aspx

  2. You will need to change extension settings on your computer. My Computer > Tools (menu) > Folder Options > View > Uncheck the option for "Hide extensions for known file types" > Apply > OK.

  3. Download the .docx file, rename the file (right click on the file name > Rename), remove the .zip extension and replace with .docx extension. For example, Assignment.zip is renamed to Assignment.docx.
For MAC users:

  1. If you do not already have Office 2007 installed on your machine, you will need to download the "Microsoft Office Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 0.2 (Beta)":

    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=_/mac/download/Office2004/ConverterBeta
    _0_2.xml&secid=4&ssid=36&flgnosysreq=True

  2. You will need to change extension settings on your computer. Finder > Preferences > Advanced > check mark "Show All File Extensions".

  3. Download the .docx file, use CTRL+click > Download linked file. Rename the file (click on the file name), remove the .zip extension and replace with .docx extension. For example, Assignment.zip is renamed to Assignment.docx.
