Many of the cases are not yet here as their location is not yet known, except possibly to you. The county is normally the place where the actions complained of took place. Cases may be listed in more than one county. The cities of London and Bristol are treated as counties. Causes arising at sea are in a county that has been called Maritime. Causes arising in the Kingdom of Ireland are listed in a county called Ireland (no disrespect is intended). The Court of Castle Chamber in Dublin dealt with almost all Irish cases.

By County - England

By County - Wales

This information is partly taken from “A Catalogue of Star Chamber Proceedings Relating to Wales” compiled by Ifan ab Owen Edwards (Cardiff U P 1929) but it is now apparent that the Edwards’s list was less than comprehensive. What this present project needs is someone who knows early modern Welsh famllies. It is also becoming plain that by the reign of Elizabeth there was a sizeable Welsh diaspora and cases in English counties between Welsh litigants may well be a part of quarrels begun in Wales.
