Instructions for Data Entry:
Password
Entry of data requires a password. To receive a password, follow the instructions on the WAALT Main Page, the link for which appears here in the left margin.

Template for Data Entry
(1) When there is no entry yet for this parish.
Each county segment begins with a template: use the template by copying it and pasting it in the appropriate place, but leave the template clean for others to use and to serve as column headings. The template begins with the line with three apostrophes and the word "Parish" and ends with the bar and curly bracket and the code for two breaks. For parishes not yet listed, copy the whole template and paste it in the appropriate alphabetical order. The template contains two sets of bars that on the edit page appear as columns that will appear on the display page as a row. The first set of bars that contains no words must appear and must remain empty. Data is entered in the second set of bars and replaces the words, but remember: use the template that you have pasted, not the set you have copied.
  • The Date is the date of the document
  • The rector/vicar cell contains the name of the rector or vicar plus whether the person is the plaintiff, defendant, or just mentioned (even if designated as "just mentioned")
  • The third cell contains the other party whether plaintiff or defendant (specify which one); if the rector/vicar was just mentioned and was not a party, this cell will contain both the plaintiff and defendant.
  • The fourth cell the type of action: basically, the form of the writ (debt, trespass) plus a level or two of detail (thus, debt for £10; account as bailiff in London; Trespass: assault in London).
  • The fifth cell is for comments, such as to indicate that the enrollment only contains mesne process, what the pleading or verdict was, or simply helpful comments deriving from the enrollment.
  • The sixth cell is for the link to the documents. Copy the address bar from the AALT image and paste it in between the two brackets. The brackets must be there to make it an active link and there cannot be spaces in between the web address and the brackets.
  • What looks the seventh cell is a bar and a dash: that ends the line and will contain no information.
  • The bar, curly parenthesis and two breaks closes off the border surrounding the parish and provides space before the next parish or county segment.

(2) When this parish already has data listed.
If the parish is already listed, then you only copy the set of bars with the categories listed (like "rector/vicar") and paste it in the appropriate chronological space in the appropriate parish segment and enter your information over the words in the pasted template according to the instructions in the paragraph above. Do not copy the bar and curly bracket, since that code is already listed. Leave a couple spaces between entries, and enter the new data entry template before the bar and curly bracket that ends the parish segment. Do not put in two sets of bar and curly brackets, since that will result in a double border.

If the rector/vicar you have found is already listed, please enter the information still, since entries will not specify how long the person held the office: only additional entries will provide that information.

Remember, above all else, leave the full template, both the part that begins with "Parish" and the second part that begins with "rector/vicar" untouched at the top of each county segment: further contributors have to be able to find the template and need the "rector/vicar" etc set for column headings.
