This page will be segmented when it gets too long. Add information by clicking on "edit" above. Items should begin with term (if available) and year together with a letter to allow for distinguishing subsequent documents in the same year and term. The designation should be in bold. Thus an entry will appear as H1285 A:. Text thereafter should indicate what the document concerns. The link to the document should be a copied and pasted full web address (http:// . . .) surrounded by single brackets ( [ ] ). Leave a line between entries. The 25-year segments begin with a vertical bar and end with a vertical bar minus. Avoid other more complex codes. If you want to append a translation, provide a completely unique address surrounded by double brackets: Infrastructure H1275 A Tr. Such an address indicates sector and year, the A indicates it is the first document entered for that year and term, the Tr indicates it is a translation. That will constitute a unique address. DO NOT attempt to re-order documents within a term to achieve a perfect chronology, since it will invalidate other references to re-named documents. A document written in Notepad will copy into the site without any complicating code. Avoid more complicated coding. Check your entry before saving by clicking on "show preview below (return here by using the back arrow); before leaving the document, remember to save the page.

H1349 A: Yorkshire. It had been presented that a course forty feet wide should be kept clear in the Ouse for the passage of ships to and from York and that William de Aton knight had obstructed the Ouse with nets and pilons. Aton claimed and a jury confirmed that he and his predecessors lords of Bartleby had always had pilons and nets in the Ouse and that the hip passage was on the river by the archbishop's land because of the depth there. [45] rcp

H1349 B: Yorkshire. Presented that Master Richard de Eryum late canon of St Peters, York, while alive gave Ralph de Drayton parson of Skelton 100s for the repair of a certain bridge of Neusom over the River Wisk in Northallerton and Great Smitheton, the common passage between York and Newcastle upon Tyne. The bridge is now so broken down that no one can walk or ride it, but Drayton has retained the 100s for six years. Drayton confessed that he still had the money, so he is distrained by all his lands to spend the whole 100s on repair of the bridge and to make fine with the fine. [46]

E1349 B: Lincolnshire. Presented that the abbot of Revesby holds 120 acres of land, meadow and pasture in the towns of Sibsey and Stikeney from the gift and feoffment of William de Rumare late earl of Lincoln beore the time of memory for the repair and sustenance of the bidge North Dike and the causeway of Sibsey. It is now out of repair. Under Henry III a similar presentment was countered by the plea that the abbey was not obliged to repair the bridge and causeway but had only done so voluntarily and that they held no lands for the service. A jury so confirmed. The abbot now presented an exemplication of that procedure dated 2 Edward III, and the abbot was thus quit. [49]

E1349 C: Lincolnshire. Presented that the abbot of Louth Park was obliged to repair a royal road called "The Causeway"; the abbot presented an exemplification of a previous presentment in which he had been acquitted. [50]

In 1346 it was presented that the royal road between Tothill and Almorigate in Westminster is so filthy that the king and the people cannot travel on it, to the nuisance of the king and the countryside. Roger Belet and Richard de Abyndon are held to repair the road to Tothill toward their houses up to the middle to the road. Roger denied the obligation. A jury returned that he was not obliged nor had his ancestors been so obligated. Richard confessed that he is obliged. [53]

Presented earlier that the Prior of St Savior by Swaton has certain tenements in perpetual alms for which it is held annually to expend 100s to repair and sustain a causeway and bridge called Holland Bridge that runs from the house of St Savior to Donington in Holland. The obligation was very precise and based on a settlement of 8 Edward III. The prior maintained that they were only obliged to spend 100s if 100s was necessary, so that he could pay less. Jury summons. [54] rcp
