1559 – Warrant for Thomas Weldon, Cofferer   [fol. 30v] Elizabeth by the grace of god &c  To the Treasourer and Chamb[er]leynes of o[u]r Eschequier that now be and that hereafter shalbe gretinge   Wheras we have appoynted o[u]r trustie and welbeloved serv[a]nte Thomas Weldon esquire to be coferer of our housholde and keper of our greate warderob[e] of the same who hathe exercised and occupied the same office from the [blank] daye of [ blank . ] in the first yere of our reigne hethervnto he havinge no money in his handes for the payment of thexpences and charges therof  And for the expences and charges of this present yere endinge the last day of Septembr[e] nexte [fol. 31] hathe as yet no sufficient assignement or warraunte for the receipte of suche some or som[m]es of money as ys due and shalbe due vnto our househoulde serv[a]ntes for their wages/   And to diverse and sondry of o[u]r subiectes for suche victualles as hathe benne and shalbe taken to o[u]r vse for the necessarie p[ro]vysion of o[u]r said househoulde/  Our full mynde and pleasure is aswell for the satisfaccion and payment [fol. 32v] of o[u]r saide serv[a]ntes ar contented and pleased th[a]t ye deliver and paye or cause to be delivered and paide to thandes of the said Thomas Weldon the som[m]e of [blank] for the necessarie expences of o[u]r said houshold for this present yere endinge the said Last daye of Septembr[e] next of suche o[u]r Treasuir remayning in the Receipt of o[u]r said Eschequire and in yo[u]r charge or that hereafter shall co[m]me and be in the said Receipt in yo[u]r charges aforesaid/   As for that [fol. 33] hereafter o[u]r Lovinge subiectes may be from tyme to tyme well and trulie aunswered and paide for suche victualls and other thinges as shalbe taken of them or of any of them for the p[ro]vision of o[u]r said houshould and for thexpences therof duringe suche tyme and as longe as the saide Thomas Weldon shall contynew coferer of o[u]r said houshould and Keper of the greate warderob[e] therof/ shall yerely have at the Feaste of [fol. 34v] seint Michaell tharchangell & Ester by even porc[i]ons the so[m]me of xij thowsand poundes the first payment therof to begynne at the feast of seinte Michaell tharchangell next ensuynge of suche o[u]r Treasuir as shalbe remayne and co[m]me from tyme to tyme and yere to yere into o[u]r  the Receipte of o[u]r said eschequire beinge in yo[u]r charge/   And also ye he shall yerely have duringe \suche/ his tyme as he shall contynew coferer of o[u]r said houshold [fol. 35] and Keper of the grete warderob[e] aforesaid of the Collector or collectors of the subsidies of Tonage and pondage of iijs the tonne and xijd the pound w[i]tin o[u]r porte of o[u]r Citie of London for the tyme beinge the so[m]me of foure thousaund pounde and yerelie of the Collecto[r] of o[u]r Customes called the pety custome w[i]tin o[u]r said port of London for the tyme beinge the some of thre thosaund thre hundred pounde/ [fol. 36v]   And also yerelie of the generall Receavo[r] or Reaceavo[rs] of o[u]r Lordeshipps Mano[rs] Landes T[enem]entes and other o[u]r hereditamentes [f]rom o[u]r Counties of Somers[et] Dors[et] Devon and Corn[wall] the so[m]me of two thousaund pounde   And thus ye shall yerelie stake and levie or cause to be Levied and striken one taile or severall tailes of \vppon/ ev[er]y of the saide Collector or Collectors Receavo[r] or Receavo[rs] at the Receipt of [fol. 37] o[u]r saide Eschequire in due and sufficient fourme So that the same taile or tailes and ev[er]y of them may be goode and effectuall in lawe to all intentes construccions and p[ur]poses to the said Thomas Weldon to be ymployed for the necessarie expenses of o[u]r said houshold aforesaid   And that ye deliver that the same taile or tailes so Levied and stryken ye take and deliver vnto him from tyme to tyme and yere to [fol. 38v] yere by waye of prest aslonge and duringe suche tyme as he shall remayne and contynew coferer of o[u]r said houshould and Keper of o[u]r said warderob[e]/   Wherefore we will and Co[m]maund you o[u]r saide Treasourer and Chamb[er]leynes of o[u]r said eschequire that now be and that hereafter shalbe that ye yerelie forthw[i]t paye or cause to be paid at the Receipt of o[u]r said Eschequire for [fol. 39] thexpenses of o[u]r said houshould for this present yere endinge the said Last daye of Septembr[e] next co[m]mynge the so[m]me of [ . blank . ] of suche of o[u]r treasaur that now remayneth in o[u]r said Receipt or that hereafter shall come be or remayne there vnto the said Thomas Weldon or to his sufficient or lawfull deputie   And furthermore that ye yerelie at the feaste of Seint [fol. 40v] Michaell tharchangell and Easter pay or cause to be paide vnto the said Thomas Weldon so longe as he shall contynew coferer of o[u]r said househould and Keper of the warderob[e] of the same the so[m]me of twelve thousaund poundes at the Receipt aforesaid/  of suche of o[u]r Treasure that shalbe remayne or co[m]me from tyme to tyme and yere to yere into the Receipt of Eschequire aforesaid/   And also [fol. 41] that ye yerelie duringe the tyme as the said Thomas shall contynue coferer as aforesaid ye Levie and strike \or cause to be Levied and striken at the Receipt aforesaid in due and sufficient fourme/ vppon the Collector or Collectours of the said subsidy of tonage and pondage of o[u]r said porte of London for the tyme being on taile or several tailes conteyninge the som[m]e of foure thousaund poundes  And \vpon/ the collecto[r] of o[u]r Customes called the pety custome w[i]tin o[u]r said port of London for the tyme being on taile or severall tayles conteyninge the so[m]me of thre thousand [fol. 42v]  thre hundreth poundes  And of \vpon/ the Receavo[r] or Receavors generall of o[u]r Lordeshipps Mano[rs] Landes tenementes and other heredatamentes w[i]tin o[u]r Counties of Somers[et] Dors[et] Devon and Corn[wall] for the tyme beinge one taile or severall tailes conteyninge the said somme of two thowsaund poundes/  And after the said sev[er]all tailes so striken and Levied in due and sufficient fourme as is aforesaid ye deliver or cause to [fol. 43] be delivered [ damaged ]le or tailes t[ damaged ]mas Weldon from tyme to tyme and yere to yere as longe as he shall contynew coferer of o[u]r said houshould and Keper of the warderob[e] of the same \by waye of prest for the cause aforesaid/.  The first payment therof to begynne at the Feast of Seinte Michaell tharchangell next co[m]minge/   And these faile ye not to do As ye tender o[u]r pleasuir/  And these o[u]r L[ett]res shalbe A sufficient warr[a]nte and discharge against vs in this behalf geven &c
