Right worshipfull after my humble comendacion ynto you with the lyke thankes for your goodnes & gentlenes at all tymes showyd me / I was movyd of very petie to write unto you in the favour of one william wright my pore neighnour being a very honest sober & discrete pore man who by Ivell happe & a wicked wife is fallen in daunger of the Lawe / his case is Lamentable and of good men to be petied. The matter is this his wife being a light woman not regarding the dutie of a wife & falling in love with straunge men, and being overcome with wickednes, abowt twoo yeres syns & more hyred certen persons to kyll her said husband at whiche tyme I was mayour of the Towne of Kingston upon Hull and by good fortune having intelligence thereof prevented the mischeif / And the matter being fully confessyd, upon her humble sute & Large promisses I perswadyd the said wright to forgyve her offence & take her agayne and became my self a pledge for her well doing / wherupon, & at my request he was contentyd therwithall And yet she not having grace to amend her former Ivell lyfe, fell to her old traide of lewdnes with the parishe Clerke wheare she dwelt / awiche thing being perceaved by her husband he something rebuked her for it and warnyd her of the Clerkes company, wheare at the Clerke was muche offendyd / And within twoo or three dayes after the said Wright going abowt his busynes in the feldes the clerke came to hym & challenged him for warnyng his wife of his company / And therupon made affraye, And by mysfortune the said Wright with his staffe stroke hym upon the hedd whereof he died / The matter is so well knowen to the frendes of the partie that is dead that his owne father & other his fryndes say playnly thay will never maike /\ anie /\ sute against Wright for the same. / Notwithstanding it is thought by suche as be learnyd that he must nedes sue for the Queanes majestes pardon / For thopteynyng whereof, if it wold please you to be a meane unto the Quenes highnes you shall do a very charytable dede wherunto I am the rather imboldenyd to require your helpe; having experience of your gentlenes, & considering the petifull case the honest poore man is fallen in / And in showing your goodnes herin, he shall rewarde you whiche hytherto hath blyssyd you for the releving & helping the afflicted in their necessite And thus requiring you to take in good parte my long & rude lettre with my humble comendacions unto my good Lady / I byd you farewell frome Hull the last in September yowr servant to comand
