MADAME,

IT will pleise zoure Ladyship to excuse me of my slewthfulness in not remembring zow with sic nevess, is occurris in thise Partis, seing it is my Dewty, quhane occasione may serve, to offer my Service and gud Will. The Cause of my slawnes in wreting hes beene upone hoip of my cuming in theis Partis, quhilk sould haif beyne in apone with my Lord of Senjhone; quhilk Journay is alterit, and thought mare expedient that my Lord of Senjhone pass in Fraunce, quhaire I daire not go at this Tyme. Seing my Lord is desirus to offer his Service unto zoure Ladyship and to be acquentit, that he may be the moire able to rander zow Thankis for the gret Courtasye his Freindis hes resavit at zoure Handis, I wilbe the moire bald to desire zowre Ladyship to except hym, seing he is ane sufficient Parsone, and wordey to be knawin with sic, is I esteyme zow to be: He will let zoure Ladyship knaw moire of the Estait of this Countrey thane I can wret. Theire is to repaire towardes the Quene's Majestie in Commissione; the Erls of Mortonne and Glencarne with the Lord of Ledingtowne. The Estaits hes agreit indifferently weill at this Parliament, and the spiritual Papists with the Newtrals hes consentit to seik that Thyng, yat may be gretest Comfort to zoure first Friend. Theire is no instant truble nor Seditione among ws. For sum for fear of zoure Freindis comfort, and sum for luif to haif it, makis ane quietnes and ane rest. In the meane Tyme, I pray God send hym comfort, and I dowte not bot yaire shalbe quietnes in all. It will pleise zow to resave zowre Hud with sic Triffles, is this berar hes. Geve I had not hopit to haiff beyne there my self, I wald a send them er now, and warld a knawing geve their be ony Triflis in thise Partis, quhilk ze wald be desirus of. It will pleise zoure Ladyship to command this Gentilmane, Walter Melvil by Name, quho is my Cusing, and ane honest Persone, and wilbe als glaid to do zow Service and Plesor is I, quhome I think no littill bound to zoure Ladyship Service, quhaire it may be acceptabill. I am desirit to be theire in ypone with the Commissioners, bot I have beyne sum Part evill disposit, and is better at presant. Geve theire be no moire Impediment than I knaw, I wilbe sorry to remane, geve it ware bot to se the weilfaire of zoure Mestres and myne. I wrote two Letteris wnto zow with Mester Killygrewe's; I knaw not quhither zoure Ladyship resaivit them, or not. I pray God preserve zoure Ladyship in Prosperitie both in Saull and Bode. With my humill Commendations and Service, I will pray zow to offer this same to Mester Cecill. At Edingburghe the 21st of September. Be zoure humill and obedient Servant to Command,
