6 June 1560 Mr. Secretary Cecill to Sir William Petre

From the Original.

SIR,

AT two of the Clock this Afternoone cam to my Hands your Lettre, with dyvers others depeched the fourth of this, and with them a Booke printed with the Quene's Majesty's Answers to the French Embassador's Protestation; which furth-with redyng, I found fawty, and thought therfore to retorne imediately corrected, thynking mete that the Printar be admonished thereof, and to correct, as he maye, all the rest. I am not at lesure (because the Daye will scantly serve us, to goo to Darneton to Bedd) to make answer to Mr. Tresorer, and my Lord Robert's Lettres; and therfore I pray yow to report myne Excuse with my most harty Thanks to them both, for their ernest and frendly Lettres. The Treasure, wherof my Lord Tresoror maketh mention to be sent, was well knowen to be sent before my coming from London; which was but twelve thousand Pounds: But my meaning was to hasten away the rest; for this that is come will not paye the Dett of Maye. I here still of grete lack in Lethe. I thank God I fynd my Helth amend; wishyng that the rest of our Jornaye wer fynished to the Weale of the Realme, uppon Condition I lacked my Helth or my Liffe. In hast at Northallerton, Thursd. 6 Junii. Hora 3 Pomerid. Yours assured,

W. Cecill.

To the Right Honorable Sir William Petre Knight, to the Quene's Ma-jesty's Privy Counceil.
