Lawrence Appointed Interim VC/VP for Student Affairs

UH President Renu Khator announced the appointment of Michael J. Lawrence as interim vice chancellor and interim vice president for student affairs beginning Monday, March 21. Lawrence has more than three decades of experience as an administrator in the student affairs arena. He last served as vice president for student development at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y, where he retired after five years of supervision and coordination of the student development area.

He is quite familiar with the state of Texas, as his broad range of experience at eight different colleges and universities includes serving as director of housing and residence life at Southern Methodist University, followed by a brief tenure as assistant dean of life at that same institution. He served as dean of students at Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y., before advancing to the position of vice president at Nazareth College. Lawrence will serve until the search is complete. The search for the position, which is anticipated to last no more than six months, is beginning immediately.
