Green Event at Bauer Focuses of Recycling, Responsibility

January 22, 2009

Service and community engagement are well-known strengths of the University of Houston. Next week, PricewaterhouseCoopers is staging an event at the C. T. Bauer College of Business that will highlight student service, along with individual and corporate responsibility.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jan. 26, in the lobby of Melcher Hall, students will have an opportunity to trade plastic water bottles for aluminum bottles, take part in exercises designed to expand their knowledge about energy consumption and register to take part in a service project in New Orleans in June.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is staging similar events at 100 U.S. schools, with one student per campus chosen at random to join in Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts in Louisiana.

The UH Campus Sustainability Task Force, organized in 2007 and composed of students, faculty and staff, also will be on hand to showcase its recycling efforts.

UH is one of more than 400 U.S. schools participating in Recyclemania, a recycling competition designed to promote recycling and waste minimization that runs for 10 weeks.
