SHAW: ‘PRESIDENT OF HER AREA’

Lois Shaw, custodial supervisor at the University Center and associated facilities, excels at multi-tasking during her day shift at UH.

Shaw inspects custodial work, monitors the use of equipment and supplies, trains an assistant supervisor and custodians, and coordinates emergency assignments and large housekeeping projects. She also verifies timesheets of personnel and performs other duties. And, she does it all with a “ready smile,” according to Keith Kowalka, director of the UC and associated facilities.

One staff member wrote in a letter of support, “Borrowing a phrase used by an administrator in a previous workplace, ‘When I think of Lois, her work and overall commitment the phrase, ‘president of her area’ is very appropriate.’”

Award recipients receive a framed certificate and a $1,000 check.
