Rong Zeng
NSF AWARD RECIPIENT GARNERS
UNIVERSITY RECOGNITION
In less than 15
years, Rong Zeng immigrated from China, obtained her Ph.D. and now has earned an
Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award for her study of wireless and
mobile networks. Zeng, assistant
professor of computer science, analyzes sensors to predict the feasibility and
performance of complex tasks that the network of wireless devices has to
achieve. Since joining the UH
faculty in 2004, Zeng has received the National Science Foundation Faculty
Early Career Development Award. She also has received six major federal grants
including three as principal investigator, totaling $2 million. Her work has
been cited more than 600 times by other scientists. "She has shown that she is not content with
simply what is sufficient for tenure or promotion, but to reach a level of
achievement that is on par with the top computer scientists in the world," her
nominator wrote. Six Awards for Excellence in Research and Scholarship are
given this year to faculty who have achieved a substantial record of
outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities in their field. Each
award carries a $5,000 stipend and a plaque. Francine Parker
