STOCK TEACHES MEDIEVAL LIT USING MODERN MEANS

Although her expertise is in medieval literature, Lorraine Stock, associate professor of English, looks to contemporary technologies for classroom assistance.

Stock is being honored with a Teaching Excellence Award for Innovation in Instructional Technology. Ironically, she wasn’t always a “techie.” While developing her Film and Literature course, Stock began editing film clips to show in class. Now, she designs customized Web pages featuring audio, video and text excerpts.

“I, who had once resisted computers, began to incorporate more and more technology into my teaching,” Stock said.

As long as new technologies are on the horizon, Stock will continue to embrace the teaching philosophy that has earned admiration from both pupils and peers.

The award recognizes outstanding faculty who have demonstrated innovative teaching in a course using instructional technology and carries a $5,000 prize and a trophy.
