BALDELLI MAKES WAVES IN FIELD OF ELECTROCHEMISTRY

Sum frequency generation (SFG) is a sophisticated, non-destructive laser technique designed specifically to study polymer surfaces. Chemistry professor Steven Baldelli’s pioneering research work has made him a leader in this field, resulting in his selection for a 2007 University of Houston Research and Scholarship Excellence Award. The honor carries a $5,000 stipend and a plaque.

“He may well be the world’s expert in SFG microscopy,” Allen J. Bard, a University of Texas at Austin professor, wrote in a nomination letter.

Baldelli’s latest honor is one of many he has received since coming to UH in 2001. His work and international reputation led to the 2002 Research Corporation Young Investigator Award and an appointment as a visiting professor at The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award is given each year to three faculty members who have achieved a substantial record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities in their field.
