ADVINCULA USES RESEARCH TO TRAIN FUTURE SCIENTISTS

Chemistry professor Rigoberto C. Advincula’s passion for teaching and research produces highly skilled scientists trained to be independent researchers. In fact, as a research adviser, he has mentored 24 undergraduates, seven doctoral graduates, one Master of Science graduate, 10 postdoctoral scholars and 12 visiting scientists.

The comprehensive contributions Advincula has made to his field have resulted in his being named a 2007 Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award recipient, which includes a plaque and a $5,000 stipend.

A National Science Foundation CAREER awardee and member of the editorial board of the journals “Chemistry of Materials” and “Macromolecules,” Advincula is an expert in thin films and

surfaces using polymers and nanomaterials and molecular and macromolecular assembly methods. His research has practical applications in display devices, nanocoatings and sensors.

The Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award is given each year to three faculty members who have achieved a substantial record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities in their field.
