SUBHLOK STAYS BEHIND THE WHEEL, AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Jaspal Subhlok says he wants to be “in the driver’s seat” as emerging educational technologies transform how students learn.

UH wants him there too, awarding the associate professor of computer science the Teaching Excellence Award for innovation in instructional technology.

A student who completed the pilot version of one of Subhlok’s accelerated summer hybrid courses praised “the near non-existence of technical issues during the semester as well as the superb quality and content in his online lectures.”

“With Tablet PC-based technology we can make high-quality technical lectures available online with little additional cost or effort,” Subhlok says. “Combine that with focused classroom sessions and we have a compelling hybrid model for science and engineering coursework.”
The award for outstanding faculty who have demonstrated innovative teaching in a course using instructional technology carries a $5,000 prize and a trophy.
