David J. Francis
FRANCIS INFLUENCES TWO DECADES OF RESEARCHERS
A professor and chairman of the Department of Psychology, Francis’ research has had an immediate impact on the needs of children in our schools. His recent completion of a five-year project on oracy and literacy development of Spanish-speaking children helped the Texas Institute of Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics – which Francis directs – achieve selection as the National Research and Development Center for English Language Learners.
That project, along with his scientific acumen and influence on more than two decades of researchers throughout the world, illustrates Francis’ array of large-scale and high-impact research efforts.
The Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award is given each year to faculty members who have achieved a substantial record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities in their field. The award carries a $5,000 stipend and a plaque.
