GEORGE MAGNER AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
IN UNDERGRADUATE
ACADEMIC ADVISING
DEASON GOES THE DISTANCE FOR STUDENTS
Carlo Deason, academic adviser 3/senior academic
adviser, often goes the distance for students in the College of
Technology.
As an alumnus and a nationally ranked competitive distance runner,
Deason assists with the coordination of the academic advising activities.
He provides specialty academic advising for honors students, student-athletes
and first-generation students. He also mentors UH’s men’s
track and field team members.
“Even in the midst of the busiest time, such as conferences
and career fairs, Carlo maintains a smile and a positive outlook,
giving help where needed and often doing more without being asked,” one
of his supporters wrote.
As the recipient of the 2009 George Magner Award for Excellence
in Undergraduate Academic Advising, Deason received $1,000 and
a plaque. The honor recognizes a staff member who demonstrates
excellence in undergraduate student advising.
