Michael R. Newman
PROVOST FACULTY ADVISING AWARD
NEWMAN’S DEDICATION
ADDS UP TO STUDENT SUCCESS
Alumnus Michael Newman calculates success one student at a time.
During his tenure as director of accounting programs in the Bauer
College of Business, Newman has cultivated relationships with the
nation’s four major accounting firms and with the city’s
leading corporations.
Thanks to his dedicated efforts, students in the accountancy and
taxation department’s professional, master’s and certificate
programs have greater access to internships and full and part-time
jobs with these organizations.
One student described Newman as being “one in a billion,” in
regards to his commitment to his students as a faculty adviser
and clinical professor.
Newman’s dedication to his students earned him the Provost
Faculty Advising Award, which is given to a faculty member who
demonstrates excellence in undergraduate academic advising. The
recipient is honored with a plaque and a $1,000 prize.
“I am honored that my students and staff felt so strongly
about me that they nominated me for the award,” Newman said.
The award, however, is not the only recognition Newman has received
from UH. He is the recipient of numerous honors, including the
2008 Bauer College Student Organization Adviser of the Year Award.
