STAFF EXCELLENCE AWARD
BOWDEN GOES BY THE BOOK
Having navigated the sometimes tricky waters of
registration, enrollment and degree requirements, both as a former
student and currently as an academic adviser, UH alumna Cynthia Bowden understands
the value of clear communication.
She and her colleagues in the School of Art often ask the question
– “What are the opportunities for misinterpretation?”
There’s no misinterpreting UH’s decision to honor Bowden
with the George Magner Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising.
“She knows the book, she follows the book, she can explain
the book, and she’s working to improve the book – for
the students,” one colleague wrote in a letter of support.
“Every minute spent processing paperwork, answering e-mails,
correcting mistakes, reviewing degree plans and hammering out revisions
of departmental information is worth the effort because it moves
students closer to attaining their goals,” Bowden said.
The award carries a $1,000 check and a plaque.
