Richard M. Alderman
TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD

ALDERMAN: LEGAL EAGLE INSIDE, OUTSIDE CLASSROOM

Richard M. Alderman is a man with many hats. He serves as University of Houston Law Center associate dean for academic affairs, Dwight Olds Chair in Law, and Consumer Law Project director.

But, “teaching is the hat that fits best,” wrote Mollie M. Fitzgerald in her letter supporting Alderman’s nomination for the Teaching Excellence Award.

"As a professor, there is no greater honor than being recognized for your teaching,” said Alderman, who strives to motivate his students by challenging their knowledge.

He demands that they reexamine even the most basic propositions. His teaching, however, goes beyond the UH Law Center. He appears regularly as the “People's Lawyer” on radio and television programs across the state. His weekly consumer law column is published in dozens of Texas newspapers.

Recipients of the Teaching Excellence Award receive a trophy and a $5,000 check.
