The University of Houston System recently rolled out UH’s PeopleSoft Student Administration (PS Student Admin) software, which will enable the institution to manage more effectively information such as schedules, courses, grades, records and transcripts.

The launch is the latest milestone of the UH System’s eight-year PeopleSoft project to develop a fully integrated software management system for the four UHS universities. UH’s other PeopleSoft applications are human resources and finance administration, which were implemented in 2001.

“PeopleSoft Student Administration quietly went live,” said Craig Ness, project director. “The functions will be introduced gradually as the academic calendar unfolds.”

All student information processes for the spring and summer will be completed in the university’s 17-year-old ADMIN software system. PS Student Admin, however, will be used for fall activities, starting with the April 13 priority registration, said Sandy Frieden, executive director of organizational change management for the project.

PS Student Admin will provide faculty with a new self-service page that enables them to pull rosters, review their schedules, e-mail students and enter grades.

Students also will have a new self-service page for fall enrollment services. This page will replace the Enrollment Services Web site when summer sessions have ended. Additionally, students will have a new PeopleSoft ID that will replace their HA number and will be their sole and permanent ID.

UH is among 300 higher education institutions, including the University of Michigan and Princeton and Cornell universities, which use PS Student Admin. Demonstrations and online tutorials will be available for faculty and students in April. Visit www.uh.edu/peoplesoft for more information.
