EVERYBODY ASKS RAY
Ray M. Rottmann is the man to ask when problems arise in the physics
department’s labs.
Without fail, Rottmann, lab supervisor 2, provides the answer with
professionalism and modesty, winning him the respect of his colleagues
and a 2006 Staff Excellence Award, which includes a $1,000 check.
Rottmann, who has worked at the University of Houston since 1967,
juggles numerous responsibilities. He manages four physics labs,
assists in advanced labs, designs new lab equipment and experiments,
serves as property custodian, performs administrative duties and
establishes lab procedures.
“Ray has impeccable personal characteristics — honesty,
integrity and
thoroughness. The teaching of the undergraduate laboratories would
grind to a halt without him,” wrote one professor in a letter
of support.
