TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD WEAVER
FLYS HIGH WITH AWARD
Jacqueline Weaver, A.A. White Professor of Law, is more than a
legal eagle. She also is a recipient of this year’s Teaching
Excellence Award.
Weaver’s influence has been felt among would-be lawyers for
more than 30 years. During her tenure, she has presided over courses
in environmental, energy and natural resource curriculum, and has
been a mentor to many. She says her teaching philosophy is simple:
be prepared, encourage self-mastery, be passionate and care about
students. Many former students, like Art Bieser, stay in touch with
her long after graduation ceremonies.

“It’s unusual to encounter a professor whose academic
depth is combined with an open-door commitment to make learning
a special experience,” Bieser said.
Award recipients receive a $5,000 check and a trophy. Nominees
must be tenured/tenure track faculty demonstrating excellence in
teaching. Four awards are given.
